Narrative
Wanderten 1868 nach Nebraska, USA aus
He was born in Braunsberg, Pomerania, Prussia (now Braniewo, Varmian-Masurian, Poland). Another family tree shows his parents as Johann Gottlieb Magdanz and Dorthea Sophie Manske.
He sailed out of Hamburg on the ship "Hammonia" with his wife Marie, 3 year old son Herman, and baby girl Bertha. He is a workman and they traveled below deck.
From the Norfolk News: Lincoln News: Because Albert Magdanz was committed as insane by the Pierce County commission some months ago when he should have been sent to the state institution as a dipsomaniac, he secured his liberty yesterday in the court of Judge Waters. Magdanz is an old man and has lived in Pierce County for a number of years. He is a farmer by occupation, or rather was till he got too far advanced in years to continue agricultural operations. It was admitted by the state that Magdanz was not insane when he was committed it should have been dipsomaniac. Judge Waters promptly held that if the man was committed as an insane patient when he was not insane, he should be discharged, and Magdanz walked out of the courtroom free to return to Pierce County and enjoy the sweet boon of freedom.
